You now understand
all about creating a star. You need to demonstrate this by coming up with
your own WWF Wrestler, who will appeal to fans and generate plenty of media
coverage. WWF is very controlled Ð everything is a brand name, patented,
and the Wrestlers, although stars in their own right, are in the employ
of the Federation and must do as they are told. The Commissioner is able
to control their public image, or completely shape the star persona.
You must imagine you are part of the Federation's creative team, and that
it is time to introduce some new talent - time to create a star!
Remember that,
to be a star, your wrestler must have a recognisable personality both inside
and outside the ring, and that this personality must be represented visually,
so WWF fans can quickly appreciate it.
1. First
of all, think of an appropriate character name. Make it memorable - like
a headline writer you can use puns, alliteration etc.
2. Then,
list their personal attributes, including their special moves. Does your
wrestler have a unique selling point?
3. Describe
how you would costume them. Can you include items of costume which have
symbolic meaning eg a cape, a crown?
4. Suggest
a slogan and a logo.
5. Identify
their target audience. Say who your character would appeal to and why
- remember the basic fanbase of WWF.
6. Devise
ways in which they could take part in the ongoing WWF narrative Ð as winners
or losers? Comic relief or serious contender?
7. How are
you going to communicate this star persona to the audience? How will you
make them understand what your character represents? It will please the
Commissioner most if you can devise a character who will become very popular
very quickly.
Create a labelled
sketch of your character, perhaps in a typical pose (one that they will
be photographed in). Be prepared to explain your vision!
